Bass Fishing Tournament Strategies
Floyd Williams
is the founder and Pro Staff member of “Salt Willie Bass’n Baits” and is a “Fisher of Men” tournament angler. Floyd will discuss a wide variety of lures and strategies to help you become a better bass angler.
Basics of Fly Fishing
Erik Sorensen
is an avid fly fisherman who comes with 24 years of experience in trout fishing. Erik grew up fly fishing the Adirondack Mountains of upstate NY. Since then, Erik has had the opportunity to fly fish some of the best waters the US has to offer. Erik also lived in Colorado where he was able to spend countless hours in some of the most pristine rivers in the world. Erik will bring his knowledge to teach new people basics of fly casting 101, fly fishing for trout, matching the hatch, rigging your line for success, sub-surface techniques, and fly fishing conservation for the next generation.
Pond Management 101 – Making the Most of Your Farm Pond
Dan Michaelson
is a District Fisheries Biologists for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. One of his specialties is the management of small impoundments (ponds). Key topics will include proper pond layout and design, fish stocking, management strategies, and common problems encountered by pond owners.

Techniques For Butchering and Cooking Your Deer
Chef Albert Wutsch will demonstrate butchering techniques for deer. Chef Wutsch’s professional career has spanned over 25 years of culinary experience. He has received numerous culinary teaching awards and has been the subject of featured newspaper articles as well as radio and TV interviews. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Wutsch is a certified executive chef and culinary educator who combines his mastery of cooking with his passion for the great outdoors. Chef Wutsch has cooked for professional outfitters in Montana and in many hunting camps throughout the country. He has also taught courses on game cookery in Montana, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Archery and Bowhunting: Expand your Possibilities and your Seasons
Doug Gilmer is a 1990 graduate of Liberty University, as well as, the graduate school of Virginia Tech where he earned his Master’s Degree in Natural Resources. Doug is an accomplished outdoor writer and media representative serving on a number of national hunting and shooting pro-staffs including Bowtech, Mossy Oak, TRU Ball, Thompson Center Arms, and Nikon. Doug also works with Kicking Bear, a national foundation that reaches young people through the sports of archery and bowhunting. With the increase in deer populations and urban archery seasons, more and more people are turning to bowhunting. The sport of archery itself is a tremendous athletic equalizer that anyone can participate in and do well. However, bowhunting should not be limited only to deer. Drawing on his big game hunting and outfitting experience, Doug will discuss bowhunting a variety of game from small game to turkeys, bear, moose, hogs and even the rapidly expanding and action packed sport of bowfishing. He will cover what it takes to get involved in these pursuits, equipment considerations, practice, shooting, youth bowhunting equipment, myths and misconceptions. This will be an interactive seminar with much discussion.
Elk Hunting
Avid elk hunter, Dan Wilson knows many hunters have dreamed of one day harvesting a majestic elk in the Rocky Mountains. Fortunately, there has never been a better time to hunt elk. This seminar will cover many aspects of elk hunting including the use of calling, hunting techniques, and equipment. Another focus of the seminar will be planning a do-it-yourself hunt and getting physically prepared for hunting elk in the rugged Rocky Mountains.
The Life and Times of White-tailed Deer
Matt Knox, Virginia Deer Project Coordinator for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, will present various aspects of the whitetail deer’s world. This talk will focus primarily on whitetail research studies that shed light on topics such as a reproduction, home ranges, daily activity periods, rutting activities, antler development, vision, hearing, food requirements, and social behavior. Knowing more about the game you pursue can increase the odds of scoring and will also expand your appreciation of this incredible animal.
Black Bears: Who Knew?
Cale Godfrey
, Assistant Bureau Director for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, has been involved in research and management of black bears for nearly 20 years. From a look inside of a bear’s den to their curious encounters with humans, Cale will cover a wide variety of little known facts about the lives of black bears.
Quality Deer Management
Eric Ashcraft
, owner of ALL Outdoors LLC, will lead the Quality Deer Management seminar which places an emphasis on producing bucks with antlers large enough to qualify for the Boone and Crockett (B&C) Record Book. Eric has many years of experience managing, filming and hunting big whitetails. He has produced multiple hunting DVDs and distributes food plot seeds and minerals for the Heartland Wildlife Institute. Eric loves his family and the outdoors. He enjoys riding & racing ATVs; fishing and hunting with his wife and children; and photographing and videoing wildlife.
Awesome Antlers
Dr.Reimer has studied and raised Whitetail Deer for over 30 years. From his wealth of knowledge and experience he shares informative and interesting information about deer antler growth and development. Why some deer grow drop tines and other unique antler characteristics. What is the purpose of velvet? Why do some deer grow big anters? What the purpose of antlers is and many other interesting facts about deer antlers. Dr. Reimer will also talk about antler replicas and antler collecting.

Introduction to Basic Canoeing
Barry Tyree has 33 years experience paddling white water, lakes, ocean waters, swamps, and creeks. Barry has also been a paddling instructor for guide services. This seminar will cover basic canoeing techniques with an emphasis on stream paddling but will provide the basics for canoeing in any type of water. Learn eight important paddle strokes necessary for proper canoe handling, how to read fast water and how to determine the best route selection while navigating through fast water. Find out how to avoid capsizing and what to do in the event of a capsize along with other basic safety tips.
Outdoor Videographer
Filming hunts has become more popular than ever in the outdoor industry. David and Parker Slaybaugh both Liberty alumni, have successfully competed in the “Top Outdoor Producer” formally known as the “Campbell’s Outdoor Challenge” where Team Liberty University finished in the top 2, three times on the 5 different production elements! You’ll have access to an inside look at how they set these creative shots that are key to creating any successful professional or personal outdoor production. Parker and David are also pro-staffers for Scent Blocker, Primos, 3rd Arm Camera Tree Support, Tru-Fire Releases, QAD, HHA, Hunter Safety System, RAGE, Ozonics and Spy Point Trail Cameras. The duo will discuss production basics including how to run professional camera equipment in an outdoor setting. In addition, they will provide tips on how to set up a camera arm and creative 2nd and 3rd camera angles. The Seminar will also include an in depth discussion about what video camera will best suit your specific needs.
